How to import timelogs

How to import time entries from another system using a CSV file.

Written By Julia M.

Overview

Bulk-add time entries from a CSV — useful when moving from another tool or catching up a week of time.

Steps

  1. Go to Timelogs and click Import CSV.

  2. Read How to import timelogs on the page, then click Download template. Keep the header row exactly as it is.

  3. Fill in one entry per row.

  4. Click Choose CSV file…. Each row appears in a preview table where you can edit any cell.

  5. Fix flagged rows (highlighted pink with a message). Import stays disabled until every row is valid.

  6. Click Import N rows in the header.

Columns

Column

Rules

project (required)

The project name as it appears in Workroom.

title (required)

What was worked on.

service (required)

Must match a name in Settings → Projects and phases → Services and roles exactly (capitals and spaces are forgiven). Non-matches are flagged, not guessed, because the service sets the rate.

date (required)

YYYY-MM-DD.

hours, minutes (required)

Together they must be more than zero.

billable (required)

true, yes, 1 or y = billable; anything else, including blank, = non-billable.

phase, room

Optional. Matched by name against that row's project; pick from a dropdown in the preview if they don't match.

memo

Optional.

loggedBy

Optional. Full name, username, email or initials; Me for yourself; blank logs it against you.

status

Optional. Open, Closed, Paused, Paid, Unpaid or Billed. Blank = Open.

What happens next?

The page closes and the entries appear on the Timelogs list. Select some entries and click Recently Imported in the bulk toolbar to select everything you just imported — handy for setting time already billed elsewhere to Billed or Paid.
