Card disputes

When a client’s bank disputes a card payment: what the payment shows, what helps, and the checks that back it up.

Written By Julia M.

Overview

A dispute is when your client’s bank questions a card payment. The payment shows it in its own section, from the day it opens to the outcome.

Watch it: the Finances lesson in Campus, step 4, “Invoice and get paid”, chapter 9, “The Payments page” (starts at 3:21).

What the payment shows

Open the payment in Finances › Payments. Dispute shows when it opened, the reason your client gave their bank, what was sent to answer it, and whether it was won or lost.

What helps

  • The signed estimate or invoice, with what your client approved.

  • Proof of delivery or installation, like a photo or a signed receipt.

  • Emails or messages where your client agreed to the work.

Safety checks and IDs

Open Safety checks and IDs on the payment for the approval code, the address and security code checks, and the WorkPay transaction and batch IDs. They back up that the card payment was real.

Good to know

  • A dispute that is lost shows under Returned or charged back in Not in the bank yet.

  • If you would rather give the money back, Refund on the payment opens the refund dialog.
